2018 Eagle Scout Recognition and Reception

“Leadership in Action”

Thanks to all who attended our 2018 Eagle Scout Recognition and Reception on Thursday, August 23 at the Lucie Stern Community Center in Palo Alto!

Our master of ceremonies for the evening was Irv Holmes (Eagle Scout, 1968, Troop 4, Tampa, FL). Irv is a member of the Pacific Skyline Council Board of Directors and Vice President, Eagle Relations. He is also the President and CEO of Challenge Dairy. Challenge is one of the largest dairy co-ops in the Western United States.

Members of our 2017 Eagle Scout class were honored and recognized. Last year was a record year for Eagle Scouts in the Pacific Skyline Council, with 218 young men attaining Scouting’s highest rank. Also honored were PacSky board members Hank Scherf, Garth Pickett, and Judd Stiff for their dedication and financial support of the Council

Scott Harmon, author of the BSA’s Sustainability Merit Badge Handbook, gave a brief overview of the Council’s latest project, the “Sustainable Futures Academy”, a week-long resident camp pilot that teaches young people about resource management, climate change, and the impact of today’s actions on tomorrow’s environment. The Council hopes to host the Sustainable Future program on a permanent basis for both Scouts and non-Scouts.
